The Artists' Oils Painting System is a high point in the progression of digital arts. The new innovative system allows you to utilize paint blends created in the Mixer palette directly onto image(s) in the document window. Each brush dab loads the brush variant with a fixed amount of oil and as the oil diminishes, the brush stroke gets fainter. The  strokes interact with any paint already applied to the canvas the same as with natural media. These strokes act together with any wet paint already on the canvas.

Layer characteristics in Corel Painter 9 as compared to Corel Painter 8 is now very similar to layer characteristics in Adobe Photoshop. New layers are added above the selected layer, layers with different merge modes are now collapsible, and it is now possible to hide or display multiple layers by simply clicking and dragging.
